Automated

Lighting

Automated lighting, or "wireless lighting controls" give you the ability to control the entire lighting system through in wall keypads, an app on your smartphone, or through an automation system.

This allows many niceties, among them the ability to turn off all lights in the home with a single button push.  This is useful at each exit point of the home, removing the need to race around the entire house turning off lights when you are late for an appointment.  Another common scenario involving children, are the lights in the basement.  Turn on the light to the stairs going down can turn on the entire basement, and turning that same stairway light off on the way up turns off all of the same lights (as well as the closets and wine rooms, rooms that weren't turns on with the stairway light, but you would still want off when there isn't anybody left in the space).

When integrated into a true automation system, events can be fired at specific times that include the lighting system.  Building on the "all off" scenario above, when that away button is pushed, the automation system goes into away mode, turning off all media zones, setting the climate system to the desired temperature, and potentially arming the security system.

All of these scenarios, and many more, are possible with an automated lighting system.  BCS uses Crestron, Vantage, and Lutron lighting controls today.
